Very slippery if you sweat a lotJuly 12, 2010 MyMaleEgo I work extra hard during my yoga classes and tend to sweat a lot. After i got this mat i gave it a good wash and hung it out to dry. During the first use i thought i was taking an ice skating class not yoga. Extremely slippery if you sweat a lot.
Love this mat!June 18, 2010 A. Jensen I have had several mats over the last few years. None of them lived up to my expectations; either the stretched or started to deteriorate after a few short months. I purchased this mat 6 months ago. I use it every day. It still looks and feels as good as the day I unwrapped it. This mat has helped me re-discover my #practice.
Now the MatSak on the other hand is OK at best. Like a previous poster the zipper of my bag was caught when I fist got it. As i went to get my sewing kit my helpful husband managed to get the zipper unstuck. He also managed to put a 5in long rip in the lining between the compartments. The bag does serve its purpose but I wish it had just a little more room for adding my blocks and eQua towel. My bag is Fig in color (I ordered it separately)and I absolutely love the rich purple color.
I gave a five star review based on the Mat exceeding my expectations. The short comings of the MatSak are easy to overlook once the zipper is unstuck.
This is the mat you wantMay 31, 2010 gwion_the_druid One regular yoga mat wasn't supportive enough for me. For a while I tried two regular mats, but that was slippery, and after only a few months I could see signs of wear. I decided to invest in a quality mat. I asked a bunch of yoga teachers which mat to get, and several recommended the Manduka.
When it arrived I was skeptical--it didn't seem very cushy. But the first time I used it, I immediately noticed how much more support it provided. I left class with my wrists and ankles feeling great!
The mat does have a slippery coating on it, but that wore off after a few weeks of classes. I wiped it often with some regular yoga mat cleaner, and used a cut-off section of one old standard mat to brace my hands until the coating was gone. Now it's sticky, but not "eyeww" sticky. Just right! The surface is easy to clean--no bumpy texture to trap dirt--and it doesn't absorb the sweat that can lead to that old-sneaker aroma on standard mats.
I highly recommend getting the Mat Sak as well. It's a great bag--well made, and the ventilation holes are a good idea. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the mat is a bit heavier than some other mats, but the Sak is very helpful in that regard with a comfy strap that makes carrying your mat easy.
If you're looking for a great supportive mat that will wear a long time, Manduka's the one you want!
2nd Manduka Black MatMay 29, 2010 J. Tan(San Jose, CA USA) Someone stole my old Manduka mat that I have only used for 1 year, and it was still perfect. So I had to get another one, since most of my mats don't last that long with regular bikram practice.
