best mat August 16, 2010 bluebird This is the most excellent mat ever! It's durable, grippy, cushy and eco friendly. You won't find a better mat out there.
A Great Mat -- Once Broken In August 6, 2010 Stefanie J. Pastuch I purchased this mat a little over two weeks ago. It arrived quickly. I loved it right out of the packaging. It provides a lot of cushion while still being very supportive. The mat did smell quite a bit, but I hung it over a chair outside for just a few hours and wiped it down with a wet cloth, and it was ready to go to class with me that evening. My neighboring yogis reported they could not smell it from their mats. The smell has continued to dissipate since to the point I don't notice it anymore. As reported in some previous reviews, the mat does require some breaking in. It has been with me to 5 or 6 classes since I received it, and it is improving. At first, though, during a more advanced class, I would experience some slippage during down dog, in particular (with sweatier hands/feet). In a more gentle class, I had no problems. Took it to an advanced class this morning and it was just about perfect. In fact, wheel pose was a dream on this mat. The texturing was perfect for this pose especially. So, if you have patience, this mat will pay off. I personally prefer it to the Jade mats, far and away. One last thing...a few people talked about what a pain it was to "lug" this mat around. I have to disagree completely. While its true it is heavier and has a more dense constitution than other mats, I am able carry it easily without a mat bag (although I am planning to purchase one to protect my investment). Good luck on your purchase & namaste!
Maduka Eco-Friendly Yoga mat July 19, 2010 C. Lain (Pahoa HI) Pros: dense, sturdy rubber mat that stays flat and secure to the floor.
Cons: strong rubber smell that lasted a couple of weeks; put it in washing machine hoping it would eliminate smell, learned that this kind of material absorbs water and takes days to drip dry.
My search continues for the perfect mat.... March 7, 2010 C. Kirk (Chicago, IL) I do yoga just about everyday. I really wanted to love this mat, but I am very disappointed. I am sliding all over the place on this thing!! It is heavy, but since I'm only tugging it from my car to the studio, its okay. The smell is tolerable. After slipping so much, I tried to go back to my Gaiam mat and found I do like the grip so much better, but my Gaiam mat is so thin and uncomfortable on my feet. I really like the thickness of this Manduka, I just wish the surface was less slick.
Pretty happy with the EKO mat! March 5, 2010 L. Nilges (SC USA) This mat is a huge improvement over the much cheaper mat I was using that was just too thin. I have been using this mat slightly over a month (for intermediate level anusara yoga)and like others have said, it was slippery at first. I used a yoga mat cleaner (sprayed on a wet cloth) two or three times during the first couple of weeks. This seems to have helped to eliminate the slippery feel. However, I found that I had to clean the mat with the cleaner and then wipe it off again with a clean wet cloth or it still had residue. It is a nice flat mat with a slightly larger size than many mats which is nice. If it lasts a long time I'll be thoughly happy with this "eco" purchase. I also like that Manduka has an old mat recyling program. I let the mat air out on a chair under my screen porch for about three days before using it. The smell has never been a problem for me. I do notice that my hands have a slight smell after using the mat but I wash them after yoga anyway. The color Acai is a very pretty deep purple!
